David Lett, who planted the first commercial pinot noir vineyard in Oregon, opening the way for what became a thriving pinot noir industry, died Thursday at his home in Dundee, Ore. He was 69.

Editorials: Paul Newman, age 83, dies of Cancer
In “The Hustler” (1961) he was the small-time pool shark Fast Eddie, a role he recreated 25 years later, now as a well-heeled middle-aged liquor salesman, in “The Color of Money” (1986). That performance, alongside Tom Cruise, brought Mr. Newman his sole Academy Award, for best actor, after he had been nominated for that prize six times.

Life Styles: Private Parties on Pine Street
There were parties all along Pine Street this St. Patrick's Day in Morristown, on porches and in backyards as well as at the Dublin Pub. There was even a tailgate party. No wonder. With 60 degree temps, today was ideal for outdoor drinking, tee shirts, and party hats. Police were everywhere keeping "the peace" while a block away, bodies were crammed on balconies at George & Martha's. Where did all this beer come from?
